And if that’s what success smells like, great.

to be a more professional guy.
I wear a button down shirt...
with an unbuttoned fly.
When I notice, I tell my students I need to go and wash my hands
and in the bathroom, I realize that I’m wearing my wife’s pants.
And if that’s what success looks like, great.
I’ll take it.

Stood up too fast, got dizzy, fell down, and now I’m on the floor.
But at least I’m not in that uncomfortable chair no more.

I felt a dread so deep I was on another plane.
The therapist told me it was manic / bipolar

I get it. You want to be special.
And not just different from everyone else. No no!
You want to be CHOSEN. You want
Hagrid to knock on your homely lonely
meager Homo sapiens -- ADVENTURE!
Maybe put you in DANGER.
But then you'd save yourself with that thing that makes you SPECIAL.
You wanna know you're SPECIAL.
And you can't just hear it from you or your mother.
But from some credible external other:
A CERTIFICATION OF SPECIALNESS
You don't even need to be rich or happy.
Your luck doesn't have to be good.
You just want a role too important to cut from the play.
And if you can't be special like that what then?
Resign yourself to the consolation
of a contribution to a beautiful world
before you are forgotten.
